Lately, I'm a little addicted to one TV animation program called "Tentai Senshi: Sun Red" (Or "Celestial Fighter: Sun Red"). [official site] [wikipedia] This animation is about never-ending contention between the super hero "Sun Red" and evil underground organization "Florsheim", but there are number of very unique points in the story which I'm now addicted to. The program is just 15 minute long and it's quite short compared with other many animation programs, but it's really funny. Their officla web site is http://www.sunred.jp and you can watch the latest episode at Nico Nico Video special site.

Although you can understand what's funny in this animation if you watch the program anyway, there are two key elements which make this program quite unique.

Firstly, the whole story of this animation is going on in one real city in Tokyo suburb, Kawasaki-city in Kanagawa prefecture. In fact, at every episode, narration describes this program as "the story of contention between good and evil in Kawasaki city". From the opening song, throughout the story to the end, the real scenery of Kawasaki city is drawn quite precisely.

Battles between Sun Red and Florsheim evils occurs at many places which actually exists in Kawasaki city, such as Takashimaya department store in Futako-Tamagawa (ep6) or Takatsu citizen center in Mizonokuchi (ep7). Following is one example during the opening song, Sun Red jumps out from the top of the arcade. This arcade is the one which actually exists near the Mizonokuchi station. You can see the picture of the arcade at Google Map Street view.

Another unique point in this story is characteristics of the main characters, "Sun Red" and people of evil Florsheim org. "Sun Red" is a "super hero" in Kawasaki city without any doubt. But (1) he is jobless and the girl friend Kayoko (living together) makes ends meet, (2) he is VERY strong but no mercy for Florsheim evil monsters, and (3) he is very shy and is a super hero person of very few words. His shy, silent and merciless attitude for Florsheim monsters sometimes looks actually more evil than the monsters.

On the other hand, folks of Florsheim, including General Vamp and lots of monsters, are basically very good people, and positively, cheerfully, and diligently making daily effort toward dream of knocking down Sun Red someday. Especially, the General Vamp is a guy with INCREDIBLE goodness and politeness. He takes care of almost all daily operation of the Kawasaki branch of the Florsheim.

The operation includes good relationship with neighbors, lots of housekeeping task of the branch, cooking meals for members and monsters at the branch, etc. etc. etc. He looks typical house husband with very nice goodness and sociality as a Kawasaki citizen.
This contrast of characteristics of the main characters in this story is making the whole story quite addicting, and I'm a typical fan of this program.
