ex-ORL、、、じゃなくてAT&T Research UK、、、でもなくて、残念ながらなくなっちゃいましたが、CambridgeのAndy Hopperのグループが作ったVNC（後にRealVNC）。Open sourceなためいろいろ改良されたプロジェクトもあるようで、その一つがこのTightVNC。ダイアルアップでもかなり使えます。
サーバー側の設定：VNC接続の時は、デスクトップ背景の画像をなくすことが可能。
クライアント側の設定：色を8bitに落とし、通信の圧縮を「Tight」にする。
で、やると、56kbpsでもかなり快適。
